Turndown Service with Desiree Miranda

Turndown Service with Desiree Miranda

Miami native, Desiree Miranda has always loved fashion– even though “love” may be an understatement. Tunneling that passion into a career, Des attended LIM college and began working in the fashion industry in the contemporary, athleisure, and luxury sects. Cut to ten years later, and Des is using her passion, knowledge, and network to help others find their passion– as a personal shopper!

Now, Des does much more than your traditional personal shopper. She’s known for her closet edits, personal shopping (obviously), e-style guides, shop-at-home boxes, and at-home experiences. All these services are centered around her clients, designing a closet that suits them, not just predictable, non inclusive trends. Take a moment to think about all those moments you’ve found yourself staring into your wardrobe, unable to decide what to wear. Des helps her clients balance their closets, turn those fun once-in-a-while pieces into everyday favs, or those trendy pants they saw once (on an Influencer, no less) into a new closet staple. Essentially, Des makes you fall in love with your closet again.

Read on to get to know Des, how some of the best hidden oases exist between city streets, and for hacks on staying on trend without sacrificing your wardrobe (or sense of style).

What are your favorite (hidden) oases? Favorite places to be - parks, cities, bars, any place you absolutely adore!

Oh there are too many! Closeby to where I live in Brooklyn I walk through Mccaren park everyday. Then by the water in Williamsburg there is Bushwick Inlet Park. This is my sunset oasis. Unobstructed views of NYC, the crashing waves from the East River, quiet laughter between friends and couples; it's peaceful yet you don't feel lonely! I also have to add in and say my favorite city in the world is Paris! There really is such an incredible magic to the city it makes you feel so alive, nothing beats having a picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower!

What oasis is on your bucket list? Travel wishlist!!

Currently I am dying to go to Banff National Park in Alberta Canada! Despite working in fashion I love nature and outdoor activities! They have these beautiful crystal clear lakes, Lake Louise and Lake Morraine. Days spent hiking, and canoeing to then wind down with a glass of red wine in a beautiful Chalet with mountain views is my dream vacation! The scenery is just stunning!

What book are you currently unwinding with?

I’m in the middle of Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes, it’s amazing! It's centered around Greek Mythology through the eyes of the women involved! This one is about the Trojan War so how wives, sisters, queens etc were affected by the war. I got into it because a few years ago I read Circe by Madeline Miller, also centered around Greek Mythology. It intertwines with the story of the Odyssey through the eyes of the female Greek God Circe. Amazing fiction books and fun reads, I definitely recommend!

What 4-5 songs make up the sound track of your life?

Hmm.. “Pursuit of Happiness” by Kid Cudi. “The One” by Taylor Swift. “She's a Runner, She's a Trackstar” by Mooski. And lastly “Un Dia” by Bad Bunny and Dua Lipa

Where is your favorite hidden space in your home?

Living in NYC our apartments are so small! I am lucky to have a rooftop I can escape to!

What is your personal “turndown routine” that helps you transition from day to night?

My nighttime skincare routine always gets me ready for bed! I love unwinding with a hot tea and hydrating sheet mask, while either reading or watching a Netflix top 10!

What is something you do just for you?

Run! I try to run everyday, sometimes I run further than others depending on! It's my “me” time, whenever I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed just lacing up my sneakers already eases me!

What’s your favorite maxi dress or jumpsuit and why? Could be one you’ve worn or one you’re swooning over :)

I am so into Maxi dresses right now! My favorite and next on the list to purchase is the Bahama V-neck cutout maxi dress from Alice and Olivia. I think it will be so much fun for NYE in NY! Anything with cut-outs has sold me this season!

For someone looking to streamline their personal style and essentially do a closet overhaul - where should they start?

Oh my goodness so much! First I would eliminate anything that hasn't been worn in a few years / is out of style and outdated. Secondly I would have the client evaluate what they tend to gravitate towards, what they feel comfortable and good in and then we would create a “uniform” for each season. Closet real estate is valuable and must be used wisely!

If someone wants to stay on trend, but doesn’t want to discard pieces after every season, how would you suggest building a wardrobe that has some timeless pieces but also if fun and on trend?

Easy! Every “fun” piece in your wardrobe can always be dressed down! Whether it be a colorful maxi dress or patterned pants as long as you pair it back to a basic you can get tons of wear out of each piece! One of my favorite styling hacks right now is throwing loose sweaters over summer maxi dresses. Adding a belt at the waist and a little front tuck of the sweater into the belt.. And voila you have a whole new outfit and another way to wear your dresses!

What are some of your favorite brands right now?!

My current favorite brands are Alice and Olivia, A.L.C, and Veronica Beard. They do such a great job and make fashion still wear-able for the day to day! They carry an equal mix of fashion forward trendy pieces while also having neutral items to help tone down the collections! And more than anything else they have nailed the fit of a woman's body! My clients feel amazing in these brands and it's for a reason!
